Palintest Helps Motor Company Conserve Natural Resources

December 2005

When the largest automotive company in Sri Lanka instituted a "Rainwater Harvesting Project" it needed to ensure that the water, once treated, met international water test standards of suitability for usage. Water analysis specialist Palintest was able to meet the company's requirements by supplying a Photometer 5000 kit that ensures accurate analysis for all the essential quality tests.

The David Pieris Motor Company is committed to conserving natural resources. At its Madapatha facility rain water and wash water is collected, purified and recycled for usage in compliance with Sri Lanka standards for potable water. The Palintest kit enables the company to accurately test the treated water for parameters such as chlorine, pH, hardness, iron and alkalinity.

The Photometer 5000 is an advanced colorimeter offering a precise means of water analysis. It is integrated with the Palintest system of analysis and can perform an extensive range of water tests. After a reagent is added to a sample the photometer accurately assesses the colour in the test sample and displays a digital readout. Used in conjunction with a calibration chart, it is universally applicable to a wide range of tests without the need for manual recalibration or for plug-in calibration modules.

The Madapatha water treatment plant consists of a storage tank with a capacity of 500 cubic metres and a supplementary tank of 275 cubic metres. The treatment plant provides a continuous supply of potable water even during a drought, eliminating the risk of disruption in production as well as ensuring optimum levels of recycling and reuse of water.
