Lead is one of our most serious environmental pollutants. The long-term health hazards associated with lead and other heavy metals has been increasingly recognised by Government agencies and regulatory bodies. Palintest has 2 instruments to measure lead:
1) The Palintest SA-1000 Scanning Analyzer which enables water to be monitoring for lead and copper levels down to the levels required in environmental legislation and is approved for use in drinking water compliance monitoring by the USEPA. Complex sample preparation is not required. The water is simply treated prior to the test with a special conditioning tablet in order to achieve the correct test conditions.
2) The Palintest SA-5000Scanning Analizer which is a powerful analytical tool for testing lead levels in Dust, air, water, paint and soil.
SA-1000 SCANNING ANALYZER
The SA-1000 Scanning Analyzer instrument provides a wide range of user-selectable options such as choice of display, language and sample number entry.
Test results are stored and can be recalled to the instrument display or optionally downloaded to a computer system or printer. The SA-1000 is approved for the use in drinking water compliance monitoring by the USEPA.
The instrument:
- offers unique disposable electrode technology,
- requires no complicated sample preparation,
- correlates with GF-AAS,
- has results available in three minutes,
- requires no calibration,
and the system is based on advanced microprocessor-based electronics.
The scanning analyzer features a unique disposable electrode system. Just immerse the electrode into the conditioned sample and the instrument does the rest. In three minutes the lead and copper concentrations are displayed.
The tests are simple, specific and precise.
The system provides the ideal means of monitoring lead and copper concentrations both in the laboratory and in the field. The system correlates with analysis by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy and offers a similar level of sensitivity.

Electrode Pack
The SE-1W electrode pack provides replacement electrodes, conditioning tablets and disposable test tubes for use in conjunction with the SA-1000 Scanning Analyzer. Each Electrode Pack contains sufficient consumables for carrying out 10 lead and copper determinations. The items are supplied in a special tube holder which can be placed directly into the standard scanning analyzer kit.
SA-5000 SCANNING ANALYZER
Lead is now recognised as a serious hazard in our environment. The use of lead compounds in paint, pipework, automobile fuels, batteries and industrial products over many years has led to widespread contamination of homes and the workplace. Legislation has been progressively introduced to control the problems of lead in the environment.
Today's generation must tackle this recognised risk to safeguard not only our own health but also the health of our children - and the children of coming generations. To take on this task, professionals in the lead industry need a simple, effective means of assessing lead levels.
The SA-5000 is simple to use. Firstly select the required test program - paint, dust, air, soil or water, and then the range. To carry out the test, a portion of the prepared test sample is transferred to a small tube and a SoluPrep conditioning tablet is added. An electrode is then inserted into the electrode holder and immersed in the sample. The Scanning Analyzer does the rest.
In the case of paint, dust, air or soil samples, the instrument displays the result in 45 seconds! For water samples, because of the enhanced sensitivity for drinking water testing, the result will appear in 3 minutes. Specially manufactured Palintest US ASTM approved dust wipes are available for dust sampling from smooth hard surfaces (such as windowsills and floors).
Palintest recently took part in the Environmental Technology Verification Program (ETV) at ORNL (Oak Ridge National Laboratory) in the US. To find out more about this program and the results, please read our press release!

SA-4000 SCANNING ANALYZER
As a result of current legislation on the release of lead and cadmium from ceramic surfaces by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and California State, manufacturers of ceramic ware wishing to export their products to the USA must ensure compliance with the appropriate regulations. For this purpose, a rapid, cost effective, accurate method of analysis for metal levels in the process control environment is essential. To this end, the SA-4000 was developed.
Based on the established technique of differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry, the instrument uses detachable disposable electrodes to simultaneously test for lead and cadmium in ceramic leachate.
The leachate is prepared as specified by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (ADAC) - a 24 hour soak of the vessel in 4% acetic acid. A 5 ml aliquot of the leachate is taken and a conditioning tablet is added to it. The sample is now ready for testing.
The standard SA-4000 kit comprises the SA-4000 Scanning Analyzer, electrodes and conditioning tablets for 100 tests and is complete with operating instructions.
